    Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said Centre’s approval is awaited for conversion of the Mawphlang-Balat road along the existing alignment into a standard 2 laning.

    Tynsong also informed that in addition, the state government has also sent a proposal requesting the Centre to include the road from Weiloi – Mawsynram upto Mawkyrwat in the National Highway list. 

    “We are waiting and may be the government of India will consider this proposal,” he added. 

    The deputy chief minister was replying to a query raised by Mawphlang legislator SK Sunn on the issue in the Assembly on Monday.

    Acoording to him, the Weiloi-Mawsynram up to Mawkyrwait is very important in term of addressing traffic problem and economic growth of the state.

    Earlier, Mawsynram legislator Himalaya M Shangpliang said that the road is very vital for four constituencies – Mawphlang, Mawkyrwat, Mawsynram and Langrin.
