BJP state president Ernest Mawrie on Wednesday said that the state government is waiting for the direction of the Centre to invite the banned Khasi rebel outfit, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for peace talks

“We are pursuing the matter with the central leaders and try to get all documents from the past related to this issue,” Mawrie told reporters.

He informed that the party’s minister AL Hek had also discussed the issue with the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. “The CM is also waiting for the direction from the Centre on this,” Mawrie said.

The BJP president however refused to comment on the statement of the former home minister Robert G Lyngdoh, who had questioned the move of the party.

“I have nothing to say on the statement of RG Lyngdoh but during his time also he has not settled the issue. We (from the BJP) want peace and we will pursue this matter,” he stated.
