Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the state government will do its best to clear the pending arrears of its employees at the earliest.

“It is our endeavor to clear the amount due to the government employees,” Sangma said while replying to a query raised by Congress legislator from Mawlai PT Sawkmie in the Assembly on Tuesday.

He informed that the state government has so far released Rs 38 crore as the 1.4th of the remaining 30 percent arrears (i.e 7.5 percent of the overall arrears) on February 11, this year.

Stating that during the current financial year there has been a huge shortfall in the monthly entitlements due to the state from the central government, the chief minister said this is on account of the reduction in the collection owing to COVID-19 pandemic.

“The state government is making all efforts to prudently manage the finances despite the challenging times,” he said.

Further, the chief minister also assured that the release of the 22.5 percent remaining arrears during the current financial year will be considered subject to availability of fund.
