Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday informed that there are four projects that are in the pipeline in Mawphlang Constituency.

Replying to a query raised by Mawphlang MLA Matthew B Kurbah in the Assembly, Tynsong said of these, two projects under PMGSY and 2 under state schemes.

These are: Thain Thynroh to Umsawmat to Lyngdoh Phanblang and to Mawngap Mawkharshiing (PMGSY-III), improvement and rehabilitation of Mawphlang Cart Road and Mawphlang Balat Road (Wah Umpamtiah to Weiloi) and rehabilitation including construction of approach road to the Sacred Groves Mawphlang.

The sanction by both the Government of India and the state government will be accorded during the current financial year 2024-25, he added.

Kurbah also expressed concern over the bad road condition in rural villages affecting farmers as they cannot bring ther produces to the market. He suggested the government to seek funds for construction of rural roads.

When the MLA also wanted to know if the department is considering widening of the existing road in view of traffic congestion in Mawngap, Tynsong said the department has decided to convert Mawngap-Mawphlang upto Weiloi road into intermediate lane.

“However, the question here is are we able to get land or not because as far as state schemes is concerned there is no provision for compensation. The only challenge for PWD is landowner whenever we wanted to widen the road,”he said.
