The state government has asked the traditional institutions not to impose any restriction on inter-district movement and enforce unnecessary quarantine norms.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the complaints related to the local village authorities’ decision to come out with their own protocols in as far as inter-district movement within the state is concerned was discussed during the review meeting held today.

“Therefore, I would like to request all concerned local authorities that they should not impose any restriction on inter-district movement of people from now onward and not to ask those coming from Shillong or other parts of the state to go for 14 days quarantine,” he said.

The deputy chief minister further informed that the local village administrations across the state are also asked to respect the protocols and notifications issued by the government from time to time to prevent spread of COVID-19.

He reiterated that they cannot unnecessarily enforce quarantine norms on people who are moving only within the state.
