Govt approves appointment of Makdoh as nominated MDC in KHADC

The state government has approved the proposal of the VPP-led executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for appointment of Mathew Makdoh as the nominated member of the district council (MDC).
“We have met the deputy chief minister in-charge district council affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong on the matter and he has informed us that the government has approved the proposal and very soon a notification will be issued accordingly,” KHADC EM Powel Sohkhlet told reporters after the meeting on Tuesday.
He also thanked the NPP-led MDA government for the approval the proposal by saying “It is very rare occasion”
According to him, mostly such proposal do not get cleared when there is a different government ruling at the state and the district council.
“We profusely thank the state government and we have decided to wait for the notification to be issued in this regard,” Sohkhlet said.
Asked, the EM however said, “If it is like that we have to question the constitution of India, which stated that there should be one nominated member. How can you say it is wastage of public money when the appointment of a nominated member is as per provision of the Sixth Schedule?”
