  • Governor to take up demand for enhancing monthly honorarium of cooks

    “I will take your demand for enhancing monthly honorarium from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5000 with the Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of Meghalaya” said Governor of Meghalaya Satya Pal Malik on Friday after meeting the leaders of All Jaintia Mid-day Meal Workers Union.

    In a memorandum submitted to Governor at Raj Bhavan, the Union informed that as cooks cum helpers they are responsible for preparing nutritional and hygienic foods for the students in various schools in Meghalaya. “We take great pride in performing our duties as we are serving no other than building our nation India and Meghalaya in particular,” they asserted.

    The Union informed that they have submitted memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on 3rd June, 2019 with a reminder on the 11th September, 2019 and again on 10th December 2019 while on 15th December, 2021 to Additional Chief Secretary D. P. Wahlang with a request for taking up with Government of India for enhancement of honorarium of cooks cum helpers from Rs 900/- (Rupees Nine hundred) to Rs 4000/- (Rupees Four thousand) only per month and a state of Meghalaya share from Rs 100- (Rupees One hundred) to Rs 1000- per month, total will be Rs 5000-  (Rupees Five thousand) only per month.

    According to the memorandum, the cooks cum helpers pointed out that they are being paid once in three months and also appealed to the Government to pay them for full twelve months instead of 10 (ten) months as being paid at present. They also demanded health, social and pension scheme sponsored by the Government of India and also to grant sick, maternity and paternity leave etc.

    The Union also appealed for allocation of LPG connection instead of using firewood for cooking meals for the students.
