Twenty NCC Cadets from the Meghalaya group, representing the North Eastern Directorate at the 2024 Republic Day Camp in New Delhi, were honoured by Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, on May 10. The felicitation included a monetary reward and citation.

Governor Chauhan praised the cadets for their outstanding performance at the Republic Day Parade, acknowledging the rigorous selection process they successfully navigated. He highlighted their role as ambassadors of Meghalaya, showcasing its cultural heritage on a grand stage, and commended their exemplary qualities.

Emphasizing the values of discipline and patriotism instilled in the cadets, the Governor urged them to continue demonstrating exemplary leadership in various fields. He called upon all NCC officers and cadets to uphold dedication, bravery, and enthusiasm, contributing to India’s progress as a global leader.

During the ceremony, Governor Chauhan also presented a citation to the NCC North East Region Directorate (NER Dte) and Meghalaya NCC unit for exceptional service to the nation and community.

The Republic Day camp marks the culmination of all NCC training activities, with around 1,800 cadets participating from across the country. Out of 1 lakh candidates from the Northeastern states, 170 cadets from the NER Directorate attended the camp, including 20 from the Shillong Group.

The NCC NER Dte, spanning all seven states of the North East, has made significant contributions to community development, youth empowerment, adventure activities, and disaster management. Over the past year, 11 cadets have become officers in the Armed Forces, 276 as Agniveers, and 120 have joined CAPF.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Principal Secretary to the Governor, Harish Chandra Chaudhary, IFS, Additional Director General of NCC, North Eastern Region, Maj Gen Gagan Deep, Group Commander, NCC group Shillong, Brigadier Vijayant Mahadik, NCC officers, cadets, dignitaries, and media representatives.
