Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited Karbi Anglong district on Thursday, where he engaged with local achievers and reviewed the implementation of key government schemes aimed at driving inclusive development in the region.

During an interaction held at the Kajir Ronghangpi Guest House, the Governor met with Padma Shri awardees, sportspersons, freedom fighters, and social activists. Praising their contributions, he highlighted their role in preserving the district’s unique cultural heritage. “True development is not just about infrastructure but also about protecting traditions, languages, and cultural identity,” Acharya said.

The Governor later chaired a meeting with Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), along with Executive Members and other key stakeholders. He urged them to work with dedication and unity, emphasizing that public welfare and making Assam one of the leading states in India should remain their primary focus.

In a detailed review session, Governor Acharya took stock of ongoing Central and State government schemes within the jurisdiction of the KAAC. He called for efficient and result-oriented implementation to ensure no section of society is left behind.

Special attention was given to the agriculture and fishery sectors, which the Governor said are vital to boosting the local economy. He called for a coordinated approach to transform these sectors into sustainable sources of livelihood for the people.

Governor Acharya also assessed the progress of flagship schemes including the Amrit Sarovar mission, PM Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. He stressed the need to expand the reach of the National Social Assistance Programme and emphasized empowering Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM).

The Governor further reviewed the status of the Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, PM POSHAN (Mid-Day Meal), and Ayushman Bharat PMJAY. In relation to the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, he was briefed on the implementation of the Nikshay Mitra initiative.

Highlighting infrastructure development, Acharya acknowledged the progress made under the Public Works Department, especially in road connectivity, which he said is essential for regional development.

Concluding his visit, the Governor urged all officials to serve with commitment and integrity, ensuring that the benefits of development schemes reach every deserving household. “Assam is progressing rapidly across sectors, and it is our collective responsibility to contribute to the vision of Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat,” he added.
