    JOWAI: In a crackdown against illegal gold smuggling, the West Jaiñtia Hills police arrested one person and recovered gold bars.

    Acting on tip offs about the movement of contraband through West Jaiñtia Hills District, the Special Team of West Jaiñtia District Executive Force (WJH-DEF) led by Donkupar Moksha MPS, Dy.SP (Traffic), West Jaiñtia Hills District set up Naka at Phramer to intercept the contraband.

    The Special Team WJH-DEF proceeded to check all suspected vehicles coming through the check point of the district. At around 1 AM in the morning, one night super bus bearing registration Number AS 01 KC 9461 coming from Jiribam Manipur and proceeding towards Guwahati, was stopped and the belongings of all passengers were checked.
    During the checking, 12 Gold bars weighing approximately 166 gms each and worth around 70 lakhs of rupees, were recovered from the possession of one Amir Hussain from Lilong Turel Ahanbi, Manipur.

    The investigation into the matter is ongoing and necessary legal action will be taken as per law.
