    The Meghalaya Women’s Alliance (MWA) in collaboration with Bansara Eye Care Centre, Divisional Forest Office (East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya), Diengpasoh Presbyterian Secondary School and the community of Diengpasoh observed the World Environment Day with an awareness program at Diengpasoh on Saturday.

    Chairing the event, Dr. J Basaiawmoit Medical Director, Bansara Eye Care Centre said, “The surge of human exploitation of the environment has had a negative impact on the planet as there has been a rise in global warming and climate change.”

    Diengpasoh Headman L Mukhim encouraged the students as well as everyone to plant trees to save the environment.

    V Kharmawphlang Principal, College of Teacher Education and Executive member of MWA said, “We should encourage the use of other alternatives rather than plastic in our day-to-day life.”

    Heisa Lato, Divisional Forest Officer, East Khasi Hills District said, ” God provide for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s greed. We need to make optimum use of resources and encourage everyone to develop the habit of reusing resources as everyone is responsible to save the environment.”

    K Nongbet (Secretary, Meghalaya Women’s Alliance urged the students to nurture the trees and to take the learning from the program and share it with their family, friends and relatives.

    After the conclusion of the program, the members along with students from Diengpasoh Presbyterian Secondary School planted a total of 170 samplings in the forest of Diengpasoh.
