    Launching the Ginger Mission, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma distributed high yield variety of ginger to farmers in Integrated Agriculture Training Centre, Shillong on Tuesday.

    With the introduction of the improved variety, the Govt intend increase the production of ginger in the State, thereby doubling farmers’ income.

    The MDA’s Govt’s mission to double farmers’ income goes a level up with the launch of the Ginger Mission today.

    Sangma informed that the Govt have earmarked Rs 121 Cr for the mission with Rs 18 Cr for this year.

    The Govt will also set up 30 new processing units across the state at a cost of Rs 7.5 Cr.

    With 40,000 Ginger farmers in the State, the Govt are hopeful to make Meghalaya the top producer of ginger in the country by more than doubling the ginger production from the current 60,000 MT per annum to atleast 150,000 MT per annum by the end of the 3rd year.
