    JOWAI: A truck driver and his handyman on Wednesday were arrested along with over 240 kgs of ganja worth around Rs.50 lakhs in West Jaiñtia Hills District.

    Acting on inputs about the movement of contraband along the National Highway, the district Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) led by two DSPs immediately conducted naka at Soomer near the Jowai bypass junction and intercepted the truck (CG-08 Z 3368).

    On searching the vehicle, around 20 packets of suspected contraband ganja was found concealed behind the driver’s seat. A total of 247.15kg approximately was seized, district SP Lakador Syiem informed.

    He said the market value of the ganja would be above Rs 50 lakhs.

    The driver identified as Dharambir Singh (35) and his handyman Jay Praksah Yadav (37) both hailing from Sultanpur, Bihar were also arrested.

    According to the SP, necessary action as per law has been taken up and investigation is underway.
