A brace from Freelyson Tariang inspired Laitkor SC to a much-needed 3-1 win over Mylliem SC in the 10th match of the Shillong Premier League 2025 at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Wednesday.

Freelyson struck in the 52nd and 76th minutes, either side of teammate Risuk Malngiang’s 71st-minute effort, to put Laitkor firmly in control. Mylliem pulled one back through Wanbok Wahlang’s spectacular free-kick in the 85th minute but it proved too little, too late.

The opener came after Rikmenlang Nongrum showed remarkable persistence on the left flank, keeping the ball in play and delivering a sharp cross past advancing goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh. Freelyson was perfectly positioned to tap home.

Laitkor’s second goal also had Freelyson’s imprint. He flicked the ball past a defender before being challenged by Rihoklang, whose block fell kindly to Risuk for a simple finish. On the counter, substitute Fridison Wahlang unselfishly set up Freelyson for his second, extending the lead to 3-0.

The Laitkor striker nearly completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute but was denied by an excellent save from Rihoklang. Five minutes later, Wanbok curled in a sensational free-kick to restore pride for Mylliem.

The opening half had been evenly fought, with Wadskhem Marbaniang rattling the post for Laitkor inside 10 minutes. Mylliem responded late in the period but Alem Khongwir’s weak attempt and Closing Lyngshing’s effort over the bar meant they went into the break level.

Victory lifted Laitkor out of the relegation zone and up to fifth place on goal difference, tied on three points with Mawlai, Sawmer and Malki. Mylliem, meanwhile, slipped to eighth with just a single point from two outings.

Round 3 of the SPL begins tomorrow, with table-toppers Nangkiew Irat taking on Sawmer at 4:30pm.
