Free Health Camp at North East Adventist University to offer quick molecular diagnostics

A free health camp will be held on at North East Adventist University, Khliehtyrshi, West Jaintia Hills on October 10 2023, wherein tests and treatment will be a reality in health camp using latest World Health Organization’s (WHO) approved and recommended diagnostic tools for a range of diseases.
In a statement issued here, the organizers informed that it is the first of its kind health camp in Meghalaya where quick diagnosis will become a reality in a field setting for various diseases using RT-PCR technology – as well as – linkage be facilitated for treatment under the relevant government-run programmes on the same day.
A state-of-the-art and point-of-care molecular diagnosis for a range of diseases with a quick turnaround time from sample to results within 2 hours will be available for free in the health camp.
The aim of the health camp is to promote health seeking behaviour; early screening, detection and linkage to treatment and care for a range of diseases; and population awareness of various diseases thereby improving health of the community.
It is also to develop long term health seeking behaviour of the population. Investing in free health camps helps accomplish an optimal level of healthcare with individuals, communities and all the institutions working together in coordination.
The free health camp is done in a partnership is done by North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Department of Health Services, West Jaintia Hills district administration, community groups, International NGOs (Rotary Club of Jowai, JHPIEGO, NESFAS), local NGOs (grassroots, VHAM) and Molbio Diagnostics is preparing for a free health camp to be conducted at the North East Adventist University, Khliehtyrshi village under West Jaintia Hills District.
The health camp will offer services to the people such as consultation by doctors of various medical specialities, such as Obstetrics/ Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Medicine, ENT, etc.
There will be screening and confirmatory testing using point-of-care molecular diagnostics for diseases, such as, tuberculosis, cervical cancer, breast cancer, malaria, dengue, chikungunya, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), influenza, respiratory diseases, scrub typhus, among others.
The other service provided will be an Integrated Counselling & Testing Center (ICTC) van equipped with dual testing kits for screening of HIV and Syphilis, rendering information about HIV prevention, counsels them to undergo testing and also linking positive people with treatment, care and support systems.
There will be linkage to treatment in appropriate government-run health programmes under NHM, and medicines, specialised counselling for adolescent health, STDs, TB, HIV, malaria, cancers (breast and cervical), etc.
There will be public education and awareness talk on various health issues including Intensified Mission Indhradhanush (IMI 5.0) children’s immunization initiative, nutritional counselling and expert’s advice.
The venue will also set up kiosks regarding Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), Aadhar registration and Bank account opening.
