Four members of a criminal gang were arrested on Tuesday for kidnapping one man from a village in West Khasi Hills District.

Superintendent of Police Herbert G Lyngdoh said the victim identified as Rintu R Marak was abducted by miscreants from Ringdim village under Shallang police station on July 9.

He said joint operations led by police teams from West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills and East Garo Hills were conducted.

Vigorous search and combing operations was conducted in the suspected areas intensively for five days in spite of the inclement weather conditions.

“Owing to the tremendous pressure put in by the concerted efforts of the Police teams, the miscreants had to release the victim today,” Lyngdoh said.

A case has been registered in Shallang Police Station. The SP further informed that four persons were also arrested in connection with the case. “Further, progress is expected in the coming days as investigation is still in progress,” he said.
