The Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum Shillong (MLMDFS) has sought permission for holding a sit-in-protest on April 7, against the murder of two labourers at Ichamati.

In a letter to the DC of East Khasi Hills, the Forum president SK Choudhury said, “We are seeking your permission to conduct a sit-in protest at Police Bazar, below the steps of the old assembly building, for 8 hours, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on April 7, 2024. This protest aims to express solidarity and demand justice for the tragic and brutal murder of two innocent individuals, Ishan Singh and Sujit Dutta, at Ichamati on March 27, 2024.”

He said that the Forum also demanded immediate arrest of the murderer and all suspected criminals involved, ensuring they are incarcerated without the possibility of bail.

“(We also demand) provision of adequate compensation to the bereaved families of both victims, establishment of a permanent solution to safeguard and protect linguistic minority communities and request for a CBl inquiry into the daylight murder at ichamati, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, on March 27, 2024,” it said.
