Fortified rice to be distributed through PDS

The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills (Supply) through the Department of Food Civil Supplies and Public Distribution has made a public announcement regarding the Fortified Rice. 

The scheme to distribute fortified rice under Government programme was announced by the Prime Minister in his Independence speech of 2021 with a promising target that by the year 2024 only fortified rice will be distributed instead of normal rice, across all food-based safety net schemes. The scheme is also part of the Government of India’s initiative to address micro – Nutrient Deficiency in the country.

The distribution of Fortified Rice will be through Public Distribution System, and it has a coverage of all NFSA (National Food Security Act) beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System. ADIPR
