Former GHADC MDC Sofior Rahman has strongly condemned the ongoing unscientific and substandard pothole repair works on the AMPT Road between Phulbari and Rajabala.

The repairs, which involve dumping loose earth, mud, and boulders into potholes without proper engineering process, compaction, or blacktopping, have turned the road into a dust zone and mud trap, causing extreme difficulty for commuters.

The unscientific road repairs have led to serious health hazards.

Rahman said the continuous vehicular movement is creating thick clouds of dust, leading to breathing difficulties, asthma, and allergies. Commuters and children are suffering from constant eye irritation and infections. The poor road condition is affecting farmers, traders, and local residents, causing delays and safety concerns.

Rahman has demanded immediate halt of the unscientific roadwork.

He asserted the need to provide full transparency regarding the estimate, tendering process, contractor identity, and supervising officials and conduct immediate scientific repair using bituminous patching and proper compaction.

According to him, the PWD (North Division), Tura, should be held accountable for failing to act on repeated complaints.

If no action is taken, Rahman has threatened to initiate public protests and submit complaints before the State Vigilance Commission and Anti-Corruption Bureau.
