    The overall flood situation in Assam remained critical as five more people died on Wednesday taking the toll to 84 in the second wave of the floods, according to an official bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

    One death occurred each in Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Dhemaji, South Salmara and Cachar district.

    14,38,906 people from 2,580 villages under 86 revenue circles in 27 districts have been affected by the deluge, the ASDMA said.

    The affected districts are- Kamrup, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Dhubri, Morigaon, South Salmara, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Hailakandi, Barpeta, Karimganj, Darrang, Kamrup (M), Charaideo, Majuli, Kokrajhar, Cachar, Chirang, Biswanath and Sonitpur.

    Dhubri is the worst affected with 2,37,446 population followed by Cachar with 1,81,545 population affected by the deluge.

    The authorities are running 209 relief centres and 156 relief distribution centres across the state. 45.620 people have been sheltered in the relief camps while 1,11,827 non-camp inmates received food and other relief materials from the relief distribution centres.

    The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, Dhubri, Burhidihing at Chenimari (Khowang), Disang at Nanglamuraghat and Kushiyara is flowing above the danger level at Karimganj.

    11,28,398 domestic animals were affected and 25 animals were washed away by the floodwater.

    The floods also damaged dwelling houses, roads, bridges, embankments and other public infrastructures across the state.

    Rescue and relief operations are going on in the affected districts.

    2825.36 quintals of rice, 517.22 quintals of dal, 151.97 quintals of salt and 14015.39 litres of mustard oil have been distributed among the affected people.
