    The death toll in the first wave of flood in Assam mounted to 29 with the death of two more persons even as the overall situation improved marginally, an official bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said here on Saturday.

    Two death cases have been reported from Barpeta and Bajali districts.

    The first death case was reported from Sarthebari in Barpeta district. The victim has been identified as Kaiz Shah (7) son of Shahadat Ali Ahmed from Rangia Gaon under Sarthabari police station.

    According to the report, the boy drowned in flood water on Friday morning when he along with his family were crossing the flooded area by a country boat. Other members of the family swam to the bank of the flooded area, but the boy was not traceable. His body was retrieved on Saturday.

    Another death case has been reported from Bajali district. Manjil Khan (26) who went to Palla rivr for a bath, drowned in the river and his body was found on Saturday. He hails from Khushrabari village under Gobardhana police station.

    Altogether 1.06287 people from 1,027 villages under 33 revenue circles of 12 districts across the state have been affected in the deluge.

    12 districts have been affected- Barpeta, Kamrup, Bajali, Goalpara, Nagaon, Hojai, Udalguri, Karimganj, Darrang, Nalbari, Kamrup (M) and Cachar.

    The Kopili is flowing above the danger level mark at Dharamtul in Nagaon district and Kushiyara is flowing above the danger level in Karimganj district.

    Karimganj is the worst affected district with a population of 1,39,989 affected from 262 villages under Nilambazar, RK Nagar, Karimganj, Badarpur and Patherkandi revenue circles.

    134 relief camps and 94 relief distribution centres were opened for the affected people.

    17,661 inmates have been sheltered at the relief camps. 75,562 non-camp inmates are given food and other relief materials in the relief distribution centres.
