    The flood situation in Assam improved on Tuesday as the water level of major rivers receded with declining rainfall even as 1.53 lakh people in 9 districts are still reeling under floods, according to an official bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

    One more death case has been reported from Katigorah in Cachar district on Tuesday taking the total death in this year’s floods to 31.

    A child identified as Arifa Begom Barbhuiya (5) died due to drowning in the Harang River at Chandpur Pt- III under Katigorah revenue circle in Cachar district.

    Altogether 1,53,960 people from 556 villages under 19 revenue circles of nine districts were affected by the deluge.

    Nine districts have been affected – Kamrup, Golaghat, Karimganj, Barpeta, Goalpara, Nagaon, Cachar, Darrang and Dhemaji.

    The Kushiyara River flows above the danger level mark at Karimganj.

    Karimganj is the worst affected with 83,823 people under flood water in 180 villages under Patherkandi, Nilambazar, Karimganj, Badarpur and RK Nagar revenue circles.

    In Cachar district, 20,100 people are under flood water in 55 villages under the Katigorah revenue circle.

    99 relief centres and 50 relief distribution centres were opened for affected people.

    12.323 people have been sheltered in these relief camps. 14.089 non-camp inmates have been provided food and other relief materials from the relief distribution centres.

    1547.35 hectares of cropland were submerged besides damaging roads, bridges, dams and other public infrastructures.

    269.09 quintals of rice, 50.44 quintals of dal, 14.63 quintals of salt and 1462.56 litres of mustard oil were distributed among the affected people.

    1,96,404 domestic animals were affected by the deluge.  2778.44 quintals of wheat bran and 166 quintals of rice bran were provided for the domestic animals.

    Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) have been affected by urban flooding.
