The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) warned the Coordination and Welfare Committee (CWC) Shella Block president Gopal Dey for accusing the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) in regards to the recent murder of two labourers at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills District.

“It is the job of the police to find out the truth, not his (Gopal),” FKJGP secretary general Eldie N Lyngdoh said in a statement issued here.

“In fact, police are yet to arrest the culprits behind the killing of KSU member (L) Lurshai Hynniewta or the police officer, who shot dead Cherishterfield Thangkhiew. We want to ask where this person was when (L) Lurshai Hynniewta was murdered,” he said.

“Since he has demanded the immediate arrest of the people involved in killing the two non-tribals, he should also demand the immediate arrest of the killers of (L) Lurshai Hynniewta. Therefore, we strongly warn Gopal Dey,” he added. He said the FKJGP will come up on April 7 as a mark of protest against the proposed sit-in-protest by the Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum at Khyndailad.
