FKJGP accused cattle smugglers as facilitators for illegal entry of Bangladeshi to India

The FKGJP Khliehriat Circle has accused the cattle smugglers of not only smuggling cattle to Bangladesh but also of facilitating illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals to India through the international border along East Jaintia Hills District.
The FKGJP made the accusations in a memorandum submitted to the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District on 21 May.
The FKJGP informed illegal smuggling of cattle and sugar are carried out through the border areas of Umkiang, Huroi, and Borghat areas in East Jaintia Hills District.
The memorandum said, ” there are strong suspicions that the individuals involved in this illegal activity are also assisting Bangladeshi nationals in crossing into our Indian territory without proper documents.” They also said that such illegal infiltration is suspected to be linked with incidents of assault, theft and other unlawful activities within the border areas thereby creating fear and insecurity among the local population
The FKGJP strongly urged the Meghalaya Police to adopt strict and immediate measures to stop these illegal activities in close coordination of BSF as to identify and eradicate this crime network.
The memorandum said, “We humbly request you to take urgent steps within a period of three days and if no visible and decisive action is taken within this time frame, we will have no option but to intervene in this matter as may deem fit to ensure protection to our land and our residents.”
