  • Five localities in Jowai declared containment zone

    The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills District on Thursday announced 5 localities in Jowai as containment zone after COVID-19 positives cases were reported.

    The areas that have been sealed are:

    Ladthadlaboh.
    Caroline Colony.
    Dongmihsngi.
    Lumpariat.
    Moosalyngkat.

    The order restricted unregulated entry and exit movement in the affected areas from midnight of 29th October until further order.

    The order was issued by District Magistrate on the recommendation made by District Medical & Health Officer, West Jaintia Hills.

    “Due to detection of positive COVID-19 cases/high-risk contact and the affected areas requires aggressive contact tracing, quarantine testing and isolation as well as containment in the interest of health of general public against any possible spread of COVID-19,” the order said.

    The order states that no person is allowed to move into the Containment area and all inhabitants within the Containment areas are to strictly remain inside their home.

    No gatherings, events, functions, social gathering shall be allowed.

    All the shopping establishments of whatsoever nature shall be closed immediately and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the District Administration.

    All Government & Private Institutions located within the boundary of the containment area are to close forthwith, till further Orders.

    The incident Command Ladthadlaboh Urban Primary Health Centre will be the supervising officer of the declared Containment areas.

    The Order will not apply to Health Workers and Essential Workers of Jowai Municipal Board, Press including Electronic & Print Media, Petrol Pumps and LPG delivery workforce.
    Any violation of this Order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC.
