    Acting swiftly on receipt of information, East Jaintia Hills District Police on Monday arrested five highway robbers and also rescued one person kidnapped by them during the commission of crime.

    Police said on Monday at around 5.00 pm, information was received that a Maruti Zen bearing registration number AS 01 N 3251 had waylaid one bolero pickup bearing registration number AS 1 HC 2790 which was on its way from Lumshnong proceeding to Khliehriat. The robbers boarded the bolero pickup and drove the pickup and kidnapped the driver.

    Immediately after receiving the information quickly swung into action and set up NAKAs along the NH-06 to intercept the said vehicle and rescue the victim. A police team led by CI Khliehriat and OC Khliehriat Police Station began a search along NH-06 to nab the robbers and rescue the kidnapped victim and the police team was able to intercept the Maruti Zen vehicle bearing registration AS 01 N 3251 and the bolero pick up at Deinchynrum village on NH-06. Victim was rescued and 5 robbers were nabbed along with an air pistol used by them to commit the crime.

    In this connection, Khliehriat PS Case No. 77(11)2021 U/s 323/395 IPC has been registered and investigation is under way.

    The arrested persons include Fairwancy Thoo, 22years S/o Smt Rihunlang Thoo R/o Rymbai Pompyrthad village, Daniel Bareh, 19 years S/o Smt Tory Bareh R/o Rymbai Pohshnong village, Eden Thoo, 23 years S/o (L) Sngewbha Thoo R/o Rymbai Pompyrthad, Glory Rymbai, 19 years S/o Smt Momta Lyngdoh R/o Rymbai Pompyrthad village, Melamon Tlang, 19 years S/o Smt Nida Tlang R/o Rymbai Pohskur village.
