    Five persons were arrested for assaulting one Arnell Steward Nongdhar, at Goraline, Laitumkhrah, last month.

    The accused persons were identified as Sachin Singh (26), Udham Singh (23), Malkit Singh (19) and Vikash Singh (20) and Rocky Singh (40), East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Sylvester Nongtnger informed in a statement issued on Wednesday.

    He said Nongdhar, a resident of Wahingdoh had lodged a complaint on August 25, that around 4.00 PM while he was coming from Amazon office in his Alto vehicle bearing registration No.ML-05-P-6115 towards Laitumkhrah and on reaching Goraline locality above the bridge, saw a person in a motor bike standing in the middle of the road and when he requested him to clear the road, the person became aggressive and called his friends who were standing nearby and suddenly a group of around 10 (ten) Punjabi Boys confronted and started assaulting him.

    He said Dhar was immediately taken for medical examination where attending medical officer opined that there was mild swelling on the complainant’s face with minor injury.

    The SP said with the assistance of some witnesses, four accused were identified and they were immediately arrested by the police adding one more accused was arrested today.

    A case was registered at the Laitumkhrah police station.

    In view of the existing Covid protocol, the accused were sent for Medical examination and COVID Test (RT PCR) and then accordingly kept in the quarantine center for accused before production for the mandatory period till the test results are obtained.

    Further, after receipt of test results only the arrested accused will be produced in Court and remanded to police custody for further examination.

    Meanwhile, the SP assured that the district police are making all efforts to catch the rest of the culprits.
