First Rozgar Mela: Civil Defence & Home Guards inducts 445 new personnel

Civil Defence & Home Guards Minister Comingone Ymbon on August 20 distributed appointment letters to 445 new recruits at the department’s first Rozgar Mela in Mawdiangdiang, Shillong.
The batch includes 4 Sub-Inspectors, 284 Guardsman, 17 Drivers and 140 Non-Combatant Employees, recruited through a year-long process involving over 22,000 candidates.
Ymbon said the new recruits are joining a force that has consistently served with courage during disasters and emergencies. He stressed on discipline, sacrifice and fair recruitment based on merit.
Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri lauded the smooth and transparent process, noting the Minister’s active role, especially in addressing challenges during the PET in Shillong.
Director M.K. Sangma said another 233 personnel will be recruited soon and informed that Home Guards’ duty allowances will now be paid directly by the department.
To strengthen disaster response, the department has proposed converting the Border Wing Home Guards Battalion into the State Disaster Response Force while raising the Border Wing afresh with volunteers from border areas.
The event also featured a Guard of Honour and band displays, attended by senior officials of the department.
