Fire safety drill in Bongaigaon industrial estate highlights emergency preparedness

A fire safety awareness program and mock drill was conducted Tuesday at the Industrial Estate in New Bongaigaon as part of an ongoing disaster management initiative. The event was organized by the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC), Bongaigaon, in collaboration with the Industry Association, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and Fire & Emergency Services.
This regular inter-departmental exercise focuses on preparedness for various emergencies such as floods, fires, earthquakes, and road accidents. The goal is to build public awareness and readiness, especially in high-risk zones like industrial areas.
Fire Station Officer Dayal Chakraborty led the drill, actively demonstrating how to contain fire in nearby areas and how to carry out rescues when fire trucks cannot access the site or when limited personnel are available. He emphasized that in industrial zones, knowing how to act quickly during a fire can prevent large-scale damage.
Bikram Kalita, general manager of DICC, Bongaigaon, said the initiative aims to enhance the safety mindset of workers and residents in the area. Assistant Manager Nillin Bihri Das, along with other officers and staff of the DICC, also participated in the drill.
