    Nominations for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections for five constituencies in Assam will begin on Thursday after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issues gazette notification for 88 constituencies across 12 states and union territories.

    In the 2nd phase slated on April 26, the poll will be conducted in five Lok Sabha constituencies of Assam – Darrang-Udalguri, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar and Nagaon constituencies.

    According to the schedule, March 28 will be the date of issue of gazette notification, April 4 will be the last date for filing nomination, April 5 will be the date of scrutiny and April 8 will be the last date of withdrawal of nomination.

    In the first phase, voting will be conducted in Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and Jorhat constituencies in the state.

    Of 88 constituencies, the polling will also be conducted in one part Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency in Manipur. 

    The notification for elections in the Outer Manipur PC was included in the gazette notification issued for phase 1. 

    However, 13 assembly segments within Outer Manipur will go to polls during the second phase on April 26.

    The voting in 15 assembly segments in Outer Manipur will be conducted during the first phase on April 19.

    Apart from Assam and Manipur, the states and union territories included in phase 2 are Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
