Former legislator from South Tura John Leslee K Sangma has quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) citing that he is not being accepted by the party at the district level.

“I….do hereby tender my resignation from the party as my joining in the party and your inducting me to the BJP and my membership is not accepted and recognized in the party district leve where I intended to work for the party,” Sangma said in a letter to the BJP state presdent Ernest Mawrie on December 20.

He had joined the BJP on June 29, in the presence of the two MLAs – Sanbor Shullai (minister) and AL Hek, and other state executive members.

Sangma said he had joined the BJP believing that every member would be given a chance to serve the party to bring development to the region and equal opportunity and justice will be given to every member.

“but unfortunately this is not the case and a situation has arisen which inhibits me from working with the party any longer and therefore, I submit my formal resignation from the BJP effective December 20,” he stated in the letter.

Sangma will be contesting the upcoming 2023 polls against chief minister Conrad K Sangma, who is currently representing the South Tura constituency.
