SHILLONG: On the occasion of the 157th death anniversary of U Kiang Nangbah, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has demanded the state government to erect statues of all three freedom fighters of the state as a mark of tribute to them.

“We demand the state government to consider putting up statues of the three freedom fighters – U Kiang Nangbah, U Tirot Sing Syiem and Patogan Sangma – in government offices especially at the Secretariat,” KHNAM state youth wing president Thomas Passah said in a statement issued here on Monday.

He said the government should also ensure that the history of these freedom fighters are included in the school syllabus.

“As it would be unfortunate if the younger generation do not know about the selfless contributions made by our freedom fighters,” he said.

Passah also slammed the government for having money to spent on various festivals but neglected to pay respect to such martyrs.
