    As part of the Meghalaya Environment Week Celebration which is the Restoration Day, a Fruit Plantation program was organised on Saturday at the Juvenile Homes, Mawkasiang under the theme “Only One Earth”.

    The program was organized by the Department of Agriculture in Collaboration with ISBD.

    SC Sadhu IAS secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare was the chief guest in the presence of S Rani, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Agro), L Lyngdoh Assistant Director, Social Welfare Department, Smti. M Warjri, District Child Protection Officer, Social welfare department and Smti. RM Majaw, Director of Agriculture along with the children from the Juvenile Homes.

    Speaking on the occasion, SC Sadhu encouraged the children and all attendees to take initiative in preserving the environment. He also said “it is very important to seed or to inculcate thoughts about the environment in young minds so that when they grow up they grow with the understanding with the surroundings”.

    One hundred fruit trees includes plums, peaches and pears were planted.

    At the Unitarian Cemetery in Lawsohtun the tree plantation event was held under the theme, “To Nangroi”.

    The tree planting event was organized by the State Government in collaboration Unitarian Church. The event was attended by Balang Unitarian Church representative K Lyngwa, President of the Seng Samla, Bah Deng, Advisor of the Synnod, RG Marbaniang, Secretary of Seng Samla Emma Ranee along with a number of Sunday School students from the church.

    The church leaders spoke on importance of religious institutions in preserving the environment and how it’s a duty of the congregation to preserve nature for the future generations.
