People’s Democratic Front (PDF) chief and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Monday said the recent entry of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) will only benefit the regional political parties in the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.

Speaking to journalists, Lyngdoh said in the last two to four elections, the regional parties were fighting among themselves and this led to national parties like the Congress to gain more votes.

“But now, all these national parties will be fighting among themselves and who is gaining, the regional parties,” he stated.

He added therefore, the coming of the AITC in Meghalaya will have no impact on the regional political parties.

Lyngdoh also expressed confidence that the PDF will be able to win more seats in 2023.

“As a party we are not sitting idle. We have done so many things and we are hopeful to get more seats in 2023,” he said.

When asked, the PDF chief further reiterated that there will be no cabinet reshuffling among the party MLAs.

“We have already decided that the two ministers (including Hamletson Dohling) will continue till the end of this five-year term,” he stated.
