    A dynamic one-day National Level Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was held on May 24 at Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District.

    The topic was ‘National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: Outcome Based Education and Essential AI Tools for Teachers,’. Organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jaintia Eastern College and the Centre for Distance Education, NEHU, Shillong.

    Vice-Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, in his address while inaugurating the programme emphasized the pivotal role of educators in implementing NEP 2020, stressing the need to equip students with diverse skills to navigate today’s job market. He underscored the transformative potential of NEP 2020 in reshaping India’s educational landscape, particularly through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

    Moreover, Prof. Shukla advocated for continuous evaluation and innovation in teaching methodologies, assessment techniques, and curriculum design to ensure NEP 2020’s effectiveness. While acknowledging the importance of AI technology, he encouraged teachers to strike a balance, using technology as a tool to enhance teaching practices rather than as a replacement.

    Also present were Director, Inter-science Institute of Management & Technology Kantabada, Bhubhaneswar, Dr. S Patnaik, former Principal of Union Christian College, Meghalaya & Resource Consultant, RUSA, Education Department, Government of Meghalaya, Dr. SR Lyndem, Professor, Education Department NEHU, Shillong, Prof. SM Sungoh, Head of Department (HoD), Centre for Education, NEHU,Shillong, Prof. B. P Sahu, teachers, students and many others.

    Principal, Jaintia Eastern College, Dr P. Nongtdu, Coordinator IQAC, Jaintia Eastern College, N Rymbai, and Faculty of Commerce, Jaintia Eastern College, B. Papang, were among the speakers who shared their insights during the inaugural program.

    The event also featured enlightening technical sessions on various aspects of Outcome Based Education, AI integration, assessment reforms, and learning outcomes.
