In view of the arduous and difficult journey that polling teams have to undertake to ensure that no voter is left behind, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has doubled the remuneration of polling officials heading for election duty three days or more in advance to reach polling stations located in remote and difficult areas

According to press release issued on Saturday, the ECI observed that the polling parties on the ground are the epitome of grit and resilience and their determination to keep the spirit of democracy reigning supreme truly is an inspiration to one and all. Till now, the remuneration for polling Officials used to be uniform per diem amount for all polling personnel, the press release added.

The Commission expects all officials engaged in the conduct of elections to discharge their duties in an impartial manner without any fear or favour. They are deemed to be on deputation to the Commission and shall be subject to its control, supervision and discipline. The conduct of all Government officials who have been entrusted with election related responsibilities and duties would remain under constant scrutiny of the Commission and strict action shall be taken against those officials who are found wanting on any account
