    Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, virtually inaugurated 13 processing units and distributed cheques for various initiatives including the FOCUS Program, Green Meghalaya PES, and YESS Meghalaya during an event held at Balonggre Tura on Saturday.

    Accompanied by Tura MP Agatha Sangma, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak and other dignitaries.

    The importance of these initiatives in promoting agro-processing industries, boosting economic growth, and ensuring the well-being of the agricultural sector. Each of the 13 processing units received a sanction of Rs. 50 lakhs, totaling Rs. 6 crores in investments.

    The distribution of cheques was a significant part of the event, with allocations made under the FOCUS Program, Green Meghalaya PES, and YESS Meghalaya initiatives. A sum of Rs. 2.80 crores were earmarked for 5518 members of 435 PGs across the five districts in Garo Hills, namely West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, and South Garo Hills.

    Additionally, the first tranche of the YESS Meghalaya initiative was granted to Homeland Integrated Co-Operative Society, Tura, and Hills District Club, Selsella, with each receiving Rs. 20,000. Further distributions totaling Rs. 1.20 lakhs were made among five societies in West Garo Hills district.

    Under the Green Meghalaya PES, cheques amounting to Rs. 12.43 crores were distributed out of a total of Rs. 48.95 crores. A special allocation was made for the Pilot Project of Ganol Catchment, benefitting 18 PES Committees with a total amount of Rs. 65 lakhs.

    These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to supporting various programs aimed at the welfare and development of the community.
