The first matches of the Inter District U-19 Women’s Cricket Tournament 2022, organised by the Meghalaya Cricket Association, were held today at two separate venues.

Nongkhrah, Ri-Bhoi, is the host for Zone 1, which features six teams divided into two groups. Group A consists of the cricket associations representing East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi and West Khasi Hills, while Group B comprises East Jaintia Hills, Shillong and South West Khasi Hills.

Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, is the host for Zone 2, which features four teams in a single group – Tura, North Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.

The zonal matches will be held in a round robin format. In Zone 1, the toppers from Groups A and B will meet in a playoff and the victors from that match will meet the top side from Zone 2 in the grand final on 3rd March in Williamnagar.

Today saw EKH beat Ri-Bhoi by 49 runs in Zone 1’s Group A. Put in to bat, EKH made 149/3 with Monica Lyngdoh leading the way with 67 off 70 deliveries in an innings that featured 11 fours. Angelica Maring took 1/28. In the chase, Ri-Bhoi were all out for exactly 100, with Badabiang Lawai (4/23) and Adelakmen Lawai (3/18) ripping through the batting line-up. Marilinda Makri top-scored with 20 at the top of the order.

In Williamnagar, EGH defeated NGH by a massive 94 runs. Here EGH won the toss and chose to bat first and they were all out for 191. Cheanchi Kambesa A Sangma played a fine knock of 81, which came off 79 balls and included nine fours and a six. Two bowlers took three wickets each – Chigame Ch Marak (3/11) and Chiangchi Ch Marak (3/38). Fine bowling by EGH then saw NGH dismissed for 97. Silkamchi N Marak (3/16) and Ramgatchi N Marak (3/35) returned the best figures for EGH, while Jakrimchi Marak (20) was the only NGH batter to get into double figures.

Tomorrow East Jaintia will take on Shillong in Group B of Zone 1, while Tura face SGH in Zone 2.
