    East Khasi Hills district stole the spotlight at the State Level Inter School Athletic Meet 2025, clinching the overall championship title with a commanding performance that included 23 Gold, 11 Silver, and 8 Bronze medals.

    Hosted at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), NEHU campus in Shillong, the three-day event concluded on Thursday, marking a celebration of sporting excellence, teamwork, and determination. The meet, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletics Association, featured 48 track and field events and drew participation from over 780 athletes representing all 12 districts of Meghalaya.

    East Khasi Hills also bagged the Best Team titles in both boys’ and girls’ categories, with 10 and 13 gold medals respectively. East Jaintia Hills followed as the runner-up in the boys’ category with 5 gold medals, while North Garo Hills secured second place in the girls’ section with 3 golds.

    The EKH district continued to dominate by producing the Best Athletes in the Under-16 and Under-18 boys’ and girls’ categories, with Saidul Ali, Henry Yoga Sangma, Rukini R T Dkhar, and Pringchi R Marak standing out with remarkable performances.

    In the Under-14 division, Rikangku D Sangma of South Garo Hills and Akangesa A Sangma of West Garo Hills were named Best Athletes for boys and girls respectively.

    Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, who attended the closing ceremony, praised the organisers and participants, and encouraged young athletes to build on their achievements as they prepare for future national-level competitions, including the National Games 2027.
