East Jaintia Hills youth encouraged to take up skill training

To promote vocational training, employment prospects, and government skill development schemes, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Khliehriat, in collaboration with the District Employment Exchange, East Jaintia Hills, organised an Awareness-cum-Exhibition Programme on Thursday at the ITI premises.
Additional Deputy Commissioner J.U. Kharpuri said the programme served as a career counselling platform to educate youth and students on training opportunities at ITI, which can help them secure future employment. She urged young people, especially school dropouts, to enrol in trades of interest, stressing the value of acquiring skills alongside academic qualifications.
Vice-Principal G. Sohshang said the event aimed to bridge the gap between aspiration and opportunity, outlining various trades offered at the institute and stipends for trainees — Rs 600 per month for Class VIII pass and Rs 800 per month for Class X and above.
Assistant Employment Officer Donkupar Mairom highlighted the benefits of registering with the District Employment Exchange to access job opportunities.
Following the inaugural session, participants toured classrooms for trades including Computer Operator Programming Assistant (COPA), Wireman, Driver-cum-Mechanic (LMV), Surface Ornamentation Techniques (Embroidery), and Cosmetology. Trainers explained course details, and spot enrolment of trainees was carried out.
