Four persons, including one identified as Ravi Rai, were found murdered in Umpleng, East Jaintia Hills District. Their bodies were discovered on the morning of July 6, with their hands tied and signs of being hacked with sharp weapons.

It is suspected that the victims were murdered in another place and their bodies dumped in the Umpleng Dacoity Camp area.

According to police, a telephonic information was received by the I/C Umpleng AD Camp at 7:30 AM, reporting the discovery of four unknown deceased persons behind Umpleng market. Officers and staff promptly arrived at the scene and found four bodies with their hands tied with rope and multiple cut injuries, likely caused by sharp objects.

The CSU, Mobile Forensic Crime Scene Unit, and a Magistrate were requisitioned. On their arrival, an inquest was conducted, evidence collected, and other formalities observed. After completing the necessary procedures, the bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Khliehriat for post-mortem examinations.

Police said, so far, one of the deceased has been identified as Ravi Rai, a 23-year-old from Pastha Elam, Nepal. In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been registered and an investigation is ongoing. Given the seriousness of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to assist with the investigation.
