East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate on Thursday issued an order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting overloading of vehicles with the transportation having to be strictly in accordance with the authorized capacity of the concerned vehicle.

The order was necessitated following reports of trucks and pick up vehicles transporting stones and boulders exceeding the height of the vehicle’s body which poses serious danger to life and property, and because the road condition of NH 06 between Tuber Shohshrieh and Ratacherra has worsened even further leading to frequent breakdown of vehicles.

The order stated “Transportation of stones or boulders by any vehicle should not exceed the height of the vehicle’s body and transporters have to ensure that no stone or boulder falls down from the vehicle during transportation.”

Besides the threat of overloaded loads of stone, an incident yesterday around Larnai ,West Jaintia Hills, had resulted in the grievious injury to a young boy of the Shadap clan.
In his case, it was due to the slippage of the wheel on rough gravel and mortar ;which had caused the projectile(stone)to fly and injure the forehead.
He had to be rushed to Jowai , for urgent medical care .
