Taking the bulls by its horns, the East Jainta Hills District Administration on Saturday closed down one coke factory operating illegally in the District.

According to official sources, the District Administration closed down M/s Meghalaya Minerals Coke Plant located at Umtyra.

The direct action against erring factory was taken after receiving reports that the coke factory is operating without any valid documents.

The team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner J Shylla along with police personnel went to the coke factory. The ovens were put out and boilers were cleared.

The matter will also be taken up with Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) for necessary legal actions from their end.
