The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of East Jaintia Hills Police arrested two persons and seized heroin worth around Rs 60 lakh during a naka operation at Umkiang under Lumshnong Police Station on August 25.

Based on specific intelligence, the team intercepted a vehicle at night and apprehended Hajrat Umar (28) of Kaliachak, Malda district, West Bengal. A total of 137.86 grams of heroin, packed in 11 soap boxes, along with two mobile phones, was recovered from his possession, East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar, IPS, said.

He stated that following the seizure, another accused, Phulchand Ali of Lum Survey, Shillong, was arrested for his involvement in the consignment. The apprehended drug suppliers are suspected to be part of a larger organised crime syndicate engaged in inter-state narcotics trafficking.
