After strenuous efforts by the team of District Administration officials of East Jaintia Hills, vehicular movement in the National Highway 06 along East Jaintia Hills District has been restored days after it was paralyzed due to landslides and flashflood due to heavy rainfalls.

According to police, traffic is flowing smoothly across the Jowai-Ratacherra stretch on NH 06.

However there are still few stretches where the traffic can only flow one-way because of the damage suffered by the road.

East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said all efforts are underway to restore two-way traffic in those portions as well. Heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities are being given priority.

The Deputy Commissioner warned that the situation remains critical because of the ever-present possibility of another landslide,

He also appealed to the people to avoid all unnecessary journeys across this stretch.
