    In view of the impending General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024, the District Magistrate East Garo Hills District has directed all the arms holders are hereby directed to deposit their arms to Executive Magistrate or to Superintendent of Police or to the nearest PS/OP/OGC with immediate effect to conduct free and fair election.

    This direction is in accordance to the powers vested under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 and under Section 21 (1) read together with Section 17 (3), (a) & (b) of the Arms Act 1959.

    The order instructed both the license and arms are to be deposited where license has expired and yet to be renewed. The deposit is to be made within 7 (Seven) days of issue of this notification.

    The District Magistrate warned that failure to deposit the arms/licenses within the specified period shall be liable for prosecution under section 25, 1B, (h) of Criminal Procedure Code.
