Diankey N Sangma led a patient yet successful chase for East Garo Hills as they beat South Garo Hills by three wickets in Zone 2 of the U-23 Boys Inter District Cricket Tournament in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills, today.

The other match, in Zone 1’s Group B, saw Ri-Bhoi take down South West Khasi Hills by 131 runs.

EGH won the toss and opted to field first. Jangrik (33) and Sundaybirth K Marak (25) contributed the most runs for SGH. Diankey bagged 2/16, Suresh Basfor 2/19 and Subham Gupta 2/32 as EGH bowled out their opponents for 153 in 38.3 overs.

EGH lost their first three wickets for just 16, with good bowling from Erybel R Marak (2/13) and Jangrik (2/22), but Subham (28) and Diankey (49 not out) turned things around. Diankey occupied the crease for 127 deliveries, playing the kind of innings that his team needed as EGH did not have a huge total to chase, they just needed to stem the fall of wickets. For his batting and two wickets with the ball, he was named man-of-the-match.

Meanwhile, in the other match, Ri-Bhoi chose to bat first on winning the toss and posted 224/9. Middle order batters Badonnam John Mylliemngap made an unbeaten 63 and Bharat Gurung 62. Costerfield Lyngdoh took wickets at the start and end of the innings, finishing with 5/39.

The second innings saw SWKH all out for 93. Banshanbor K Syiemiong top-scored with 33 while Gurung took 4/24 (and the man-of-the-match award), Abhishek Rai 3/23 and Mylliemngap (2/28).

On Monday, in Zone 1’s Group A, Shillong Cricket Association (A) will take on All Jaintia CA. In Zone 2, Tura District CA will face EGH.
