The Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District, has announced that a mock drill simulating an earthquake will be held on October 4, 2024, at 11 AM sharp at the Additional and Main Secretariat Buildings in Shillong.

This exercise aims to enhance preparedness and ensure coordinated emergency responses. Employees from both Secretariat buildings and by line departments including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Services, District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Police, MPRO, PWD, MeECL, MUDA, Urban Affairs, PHED, and local volunteers, will actively participate. Civil Hospital and Woodland Hospital will also participate during the drill.

The drill will commence with the sounding of a siren at 11 AM, indicating the start of the simulated earthquake. Employees will evacuate the buildings and assemble at two designated areas: the open space in front of All Saints Cathedral and the open space in front of All Saints Hall.

People are requested to allow ambulances, fire tenders, and rescue teams to perform their duties.
