    An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hits Assam along with tremors felt in the North Eastern regions on Wednesday morning.

    As per National Centre for Seismology the tremors were felt at 07:51 am today. The quake struck at a depth of 17 km on latitude 26.69 North and longitude 92.36 East with its epicentre at Sonitpur, Assam.

    A total of 6-number of aftershocks of magnitude range of magnitude of 3.2 to 4.7 are located within 2hours 30 minutes from the time of occurrence of main shock of magnitude of 6.4, signifying the release of the stress in the vicinity of todays source zone in and around Sonitpur, Assam.
