    The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District in a press release issued here informs that in pursuance to the Hon’ble Supreme Court Order and National Green Tribunal directions and subsequent orders pass thereon to prohibit open dumping of assessed coal in the district and to prevent acid mines drainage in the depots /storage facilities and also to prohibit uncovered dumping of coal at cement factories and their captive power plants.

    He also stated that there is an apprehension that transportation and dumping of coal might continue if not prevented and further environmental nuisances will be created by such irresponsible actions along the NH 6. Therefore, in order to streamline and to enforce transportation of coal with proper insulation by waterproof tarpaulin during transit to prevent environmental degradation, the District, Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat has issued an Order under Section 144 of the CrPC which states that dumps should be covered by permanent sheds/ water proof tarpaulin, garland drainage should be constructed along with the acid drain storage tanks and treatment of acid mine drains collected in storage tanks should be done.

    The Order also states that any unauthorized coal dump will be seized and confiscated immediately.

    The District Magistrate also said that if anyone is detected or found violating the above stipulated conditions, stern action will be initiated against them as per provisions of the Law. These will include coal miners, coal owners, labourers, Truck Owners and Drivers.

    The Order come into force with immediate effect and until further orders.
